Sound effect: three attention-grabbing chimes.
John's desktop, with the Pesterchum chat client open. Two alerts are flashing in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
The desktop shows the green slimer from Ghostbusters over a green/yellow background. There are six icons on the left:
- An icon of a monitor/PC labelled "SYSTEM".
- An icon of a green snake monster with a white head labelled "TYPHEUS".
- An icon of a pair of yellow faces labelled "PESTERCHUM".
- Two icons each of a carrot embedded in a cake labelled "pff.^CAKE" and "FUCK FUCK FUCK.^CAKE".
- An icon of a blank-eyed, stitched-mouth face labelled "AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUGH.~ATH".
There is an orange chat application window on the right. From top to bottom it shows:
- A yellow title: "PESTERCHUM 6.0"
- The pair of yellow faces logo, against a black background, and the label "CHAT CLIENT"
- A "CHUMROLL:"
- A highlighted chum with a yellow face icon, "turntechGodhead"
- A second chum with a gray circle icon, "tentacleTherapist"
- A third chum with a gray circle icon, "gardenGnostic"
- A centered yellow button labelled "PESTER!"
- A label "MYCHUMHANDLE:" above a black area with John's handle "ectoBiologist" in white to the right of a yellow face icon
- A label "MOOD:" above a three rows and two columns of choices. All but the last are black text on a yellow background with the same happy yellow face icon to the left: "CHUMMY", "PALSY", "CHIPPER", "BULLY" (with a checkmark), and "PEPPY". The last has a red background and angry red face icon: "RANCOROUS".
On the toolbar along the bottom of the screen the controls are:
- A rectangular button with a green circle icon labelled "ACTUATE"
- A task with yellow face pair icon and label "PESTERCHUM"
- A currently minimized flashing task with yellow face icon and label "gardenGno..."
- A second the same but with label "turntechG..."
- A clock in the bottom-right corner, showing date "04/13" and time "17:02"
Clicking the first flashing task plays an ascending sequence of tones and pops up a message window on the left of the screen. It has the beige chumhandle title ":: gardenGnostic ::", and a white area labelled "PESTERLOG:" which contains the top section of text from the pesterlog on this story page. At the bottom of the window a cursor sits ready to type into white text area to the left with a yellow "PESTER!" button to the right
Clicking the second flashing task plays the opposite descending sequence of tones and pops up a different message window, this one titled ":: turntechGodhead ::". Other window elements are as before, and this time the content is the second section of text from this page's pesterlog.
